This site is regarded as the most iconic site of Yosemite. The granite formation rises nearly 5,000 feet above the valley floor. A visitor will have an impression of a giant granite dome, creating a sheer vertical drop. The unique shape is caused by glacial interaction. It is an excellent example of an exfoliation dome, which is left as a clean surface. Half dome is famous, even though it is a problematic, day hike. The most challenging part is the end when the only possibility to ascend the final 400 feet is by the cables.
The magnificent vertical rock is the largest monolith in the world. It is made of granite. It is a famous attraction, as well as favorite for rock climbers, who have previous experience in climbing. It goes up more than 3,000 feet above the valley floor.
